As I write this first post, I am sitting on my recliner, listening to my 16-yr old son dribble a basketball in the basement, and my 6, 9, and 14 year old daughters going in between intermittent bursts of fighting and playing well together. It has been 31 days of Covid-19 quarantine. We are definitely getting that family time I have craved for a long time! All the good and the bad that comes with it!
8 years ago, I had an idea start to form. The goal is to provide families like mine access to resources that they can use during their "Family Worship Time" or "Family Devotional Time". Over the last 16 years, I have used many different resources for our devotional times. And while there are many great resources out there, and many I haven't even discovered yet, I still felt like there wasn't something that fit what I wanted to accomplish. So that tiny seed of a thought has been rolling around for years and now life has slowed enough to allow them to take form! I am creating and we are using these resources in our home during this time.
So I am hoping that you will join me on this journey. I will be posting new "Family Worship Time" devotionals on a regular basis. Each includes options for you. You don't need to do all of the activities. Depending on the ages of your children, choose what makes sense. The goal is to create a time in your day that fits your family! Each day has the following outline:
FAMILY WORSHIP TIME OUTLINE:
1. Songs - 1 for younger children and a worship song for the whole family.
2. Modern day example/illustration - a story the helps to draw the family into the content. Again, oftentimes there will be an option if your kids are younger and one if they are older.
3. Biblical story or example of the topic.
4. Application - how can we apply to our own lives the truths of the bible?
5. Discussion questions - engage deeply together on the topic for the day.
6. Bible memory - there will be an overarching bible verse to be worked on throughout a series of devotions. But each seperate devotion within that series will have a verse that could be memorized.
Again, choose what works for you and your family. The thing is, just keep at it. They say it takes 30 days to establish a habit. What better time to introduce this habit, or cement the habit in your home?!
I would love to hear from you. Tell me how it is going and how you are implementing this time in your home!
1st series - The Fruit of the Spirit
Best Wishes,
Rachel
